Projection Mapping

Videos to project onto buildings

The premise for this project was projection mapping was the vehicle through which I could create a window into the past. Passers-by could take a peak into the history of Albert Street as it was projected directly onto walls of the very buildings where that history took place.

With this in mind, I created four videos that would run simultaneously on a loop, all side by side. Each introduction takes up one quadrant of a clip of the modern day Albert and O'Connor intersection. They then dissolve into a presentation of the past. These presentations are not fully accurate- with the aid of historically accurate newspaper clippings from the period, series of photos and old film footage aim to create the atmosphere of the Albert Street Chinatown. While the photos and footage are not sourced strictly from Ottawa, nor its Chinatown they feel authentic to the history that I have discovered in my research. So, I use them to create a feeling in the viewer, and give them a fleeting glimpse into this lesser known history.
